5/9/09: Saratoga Faces Union College
Jun 24, 2009, 5:02 pm
On Saturday, May
9th, The Saratoga Women's Rugby team matched up against
Union
College
for the second time this season (first matchup at Albany Law
Tournament: Saratoga received a loss to the Union A side, but defeated
the Union B side in the final match of the day).
Despite
losing most of the Skidmore College contingent to summer vacation, and having to borrow a hooker
for one half of the match from Union
-
it was a very even line up up, with an exciting first half that remained
scoreless until the last moments when Union scored the first try of the match.
Even more impressive was the bloody nose that
Stallions player, Ariel Epstein Dickson suffered during a tackle – and who
played on, not requiring a substitution after a very brief stop of the game.
Union came back
after the half with fresh players, and the
Stallions, with no subs, began running out of steam.
But not before Jasmine Patterson scored a try
for the Stallions and Jenny Petronis kicked for the conversion.
All in all it was a great day for the
Stallions – beautiful weather and wonderful pitch site on the
Union
College
campus.
The final score was 24 – 7.
The Stallions are
travelling to play the Utica Hellbenders on May 23rd.
